A DAY OFF OR A DAY AT WORK?

a day off work when you have nothing to do is almost as boring as actually being at work. i was thinking about that today because i really need a day off, but i've got to pick a day when there's something going on during the daytime. otherwise i might as well be working. my last day off, monday (for columbus day) wasn't that bad... lunch with my mom and coffee with good friends, but after that i got really bored. and even though i just had a day off i can't help but feel like i NEED another one.

i dunno. this was pointless.

WASTING MY TIME

i'm sitting at my new desk. not to be confused with my old desk that was as big as a bull elephant and blocked all the light from coming in my window because that was the only place in the room it would fit. i had a "vacation" last thursday and friday that consisted of me sitting in front of my laptop and the aforementioned desk... does that mean that, whenever i set my laptop on the desk it becomes a desktop computer instead of a laptop? i broke down and bought the latest sims2 expansion pack, probably just 'cause i was bored and got paid on friday. i think i'm already tired of it, seeing as how i don't really "play" the game, just build massive houses that make me wish i was one of those little sim people just so i could chill out on my fancy-schmancy couch in my living room with the two-story windows or else lay out by the pool in my central park of a backyard.

but i digress.

i guess my "vacation" wasn't all playing the sims. i did take summer to the airport, worked out (once), went to the mall and spent--get this--ZERO dollars, went to lunch with my parents, and saw the flaming lips in okc. i'm not a big lips fan so i'm not going to go into the show except to say that the oklahoma city zoo ampitheater is quite possibly the most fucked up operation EVER. but what can you do. shawna and i left after "she don't use jelly" and "do you realize." when we were walking out i felt like one of those people. you know, the people that leave the show right after the headliner plays THE single? yeah. that was me. and i was only bugged about it for half a second, then i realized that i wouldn't have to spend an hour in traffic on MLK boulevard AND i'd make it home at a decent hour.

something spurred me to make this entry and now i've entirely forgotten what it was.

instant messenger is the devil. if your phone alerted you whenever anyone you wanted to talk to but didn't really want to talk to 'cause you didn't really have anything to say... ok, a certain boy... was standing by their phone with nothing to do, ready to answer should you call...that's what instant messenger is. it makes that dumbass little sound when said person comes online and their name sits there luring you to doubleclick it and type "hey, what's up?" only to be followed by some bland conversation that is only a little less awkward than a phone call or face-to-face encounter.

oh, he signed off.

and i just ruined this post.

off to watch more malanDTV.

"DON'T STAY OUT 'TIL 4AM KIDS"

i don't have much to say except that you should go to www.malandtv.com and watch malan's (of rewake and the manic state) first two episodes of malan d tv, which he's filming while he recovers from being "run over by a friggin' car." check it out!

I'M JUST SAYIN'

i'd like to see a statistic of how many people who've been on "pimp my ride" have had their new car broken into. because i won't even leave my ipod in my car and i live in oklahoma. these people have tv screens on their bumpers and 4 tablet pcs in their door panels. they're just asking for trouble.

DON'T MISS OUT

i've spent the evening listening to clips of all the artists scheduled to play dfest this year.

this is probably the absolute worst thing i could have done.

now, i've got a printed schedule of bands with little scribbles around a bunch acts that say things like "fun!" or "GO SEE THEM!" or "so-and-so is in THIS band now??" or "[insert band here]-ish" and not nearly enough time to see everyone i'd like to see.

but...i won't make my dfest listening suggestions until next week. for now you can go to the dfest website and listen to clips of all the artists.

(ps - i'm a bit disappointed with some things said about tulsa in upside's dfest bio. it might be right, but um, whose city is having a huge music industry conference/festival next week? uh huh.)

no...this purpose of this post is below...

there are TWO great shows this weekend, get out of the house and go see these bands

...seriously. you will regret missing this weekend of GREAT music.

X AMOUNT OF WORDS

i like blue october a lot. i think it's because they're so sincere and genuine. i mean, the music's great, but every time you see them live justin really gives himself over to...i dunno. the music. the crowd. it's really hard not to relate to what he's singing and the emotions and stories he's sharing. and that's what makes them so great. for me anyway.

p.s. - it was weird to see them in a bigger setting. there was a notable difference in the crowd from the local kids that used to see them at the venue or in stillwater to your typical alt-rock radio station listener throwing up the "rock n roll" sign at all the right moments.

p.p.s. - i don't know how often i'm going to update this... we'll see.
